The brutal murder on September 1, 2024, of six hostages, including two women, who were held in captivity for over 300 days, was met with a deafening silence from international organizations. We are particularly disturbed by UN Women’s failure to condemn these murders and speak out for the women who suffered in captivity for nearly a year before their lives were brutally taken.
This silence on the part of organizations mandated to protect women’s rights and safety represents more than a simple oversight – it is a betrayal of their core mission and values. As women continue to suffer and be sexually tortured in Hamas captivity, the international community’s muted response raises serious questions about their commitment to protecting all women, regardless of context. The time for silence has long passed – we demand these organizations fulfill their mandate and take a clear stand against these atrocities.
